New building 1

Good news came to us yesterday. At church, the DA for our new building finally came out of council, which is fantastic. So theres heaps of building meetings going on this week to get the project underway. It's a really exciting time.
I'll keep you updated on the progress. We may even start a blog for the project.

Sundays Vol 4

So, it's Monday, I'm sitting here watching Law and Order, and updating my blog.

Sunday was a good Sunday in general It was the last Sondaze of the term, it was good.
5pm rocked. It was ok, but the message really stood out. Mitch spoke, which is almost always great. This week he spoke on temptation, from Genesis 3. He likened temptation to a fine line that myou can cross to enter sin, or reject and stay away from sin.
Some other points were;
  • We can be like children that forget the whole picture.
  • Temptation is all about us
  • Freedom in the world will enslave us
  • Do not be deceived by temptation
  • Temptation is when we doubt that God wants what's best for us.
715 was also good. We continued in our Holy Spirit series. (see more in coming days) Steve spoke, and he is sick, so it wasn't easy for him. He spoke from John 14 and 16. The key theme was what it means to be an authentic Christian. Verse 14:15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments" (ESV) He also explained, that they main way that God speaks to us is through the word (bible) and that if some people have "special" messages that contradict what is said in the gospels then they are probably mistaken, or even believing what they want to believe, saying it is from God, so that they can do and believe what they want. The danger may be for us that the voice we are applying to our lives may be our own, telling us what we want.

Quote of the weekend was Mitch at 5pm "God wants us to have sex... Not only have sex but have excellent sex"

You Version

I heard about this net based bible, called You Version, that includes a lot of community, with communal postings, an online journal, and all other sorts of cool things. Its rumored to be going live next week, but i just got access to the beta now. Have only had a short play, but will do more over the coming days, and let you all know.

Bose 802

Talking to one of our assistant ministers today, and he pointed out that one of our speakers (Bose 802s) rattles or distorts at certain frequencies. I haven't actually noticed it, which means it's probably one of the left drivers of the speaker, which point away from the mixing position, and as he said it only happens at certain frequencies and then only when the keys play a certain couple of chords. It sounded to me like a proken driver, and when I rang up the guy we purchased them from he said the same thing. So know i have to pull it down and have a look at it.
yay.

Sundays vol 3

Well this is a day late. Normally i post about sundays on mondays. But i forgot.
It was an interesting Sunday.
Firstly in the morning i was invited to go to a friend of mine's church, to consult on their tech gear.
Lets just say it was an interesting experience. It was a traditional style service, but the teaching was appalling. We had a reading from the word, but then a sermon with absolutely nothing to do with the word, but more on patting their own backs, and why their denomination (BRAND) was better than others.

So after that experience the Sunday got better.
I came home, and turned around to go and do a memorial service thingo for one of our youth who tragically passed away a year ago. It was a moving experience, to see youth group kids, kids who have come to youth group, her family etc all there.

5 rocked. It was a good feel, Pete's message was awesome. It was really good. I've been training up a volunteer and she's starting to come good. I hardly had to do anything on Sunday. Sound was ok. participation was good.

715 was also a great service. i didn't have to do anything at this service, so it was a bit odd. Sat with my girl, enjoyed the service. Shane's message was awesome, it was our second week of Hoy Spirit, and it was a great interpretation of the word.
If i could work out how to post just audio to the blog i'd put it up, but i'm currently working on something that means i can do that.

broken guitars

we filmed a video for church on Sunday, the message is on psalm 150. We had one of our youth who is on our drama team pretend to be a musician, playing string and tambourine, and when it came to the cymbals he dropped the acoustic on the ground and the above pic is the results. Because he had broken the guitar we couldn't do another take, so it was hard to control our laughter while he continued with the end of his act.
